When is the Auction?
Auction Night is Saturday, October 21, 5:00 – 8:30 pm at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church.
How does the Auction work?
We collect great stuff — dinners, event tickets, personal/professional services, handmade items, and more — and let you bid on it. Each item goes to the highest bidder(s). We bill you on Auction Night. You pay later (or that night, if you prefer). Church programs benefit.
What is the theme for this year’s Auction?
Our theme for the 2017 Auction is Find the Superhero Within. We’d like to thank the Youth Group for suggesting superheroes as our basic theme.
How do I donate to the Auction?
Donations for the 2017 Auction are now closed.
What happens on Auction Night?
At the door, you register and get a bidder number. Then, in the Small Hall, you enjoy a tasty buffet of awesome food (dinner, dessert, and beverages) – accompanied by themed background music – while browsing and bidding in our Silent Auction. Finally, you head into the Great Hall for the piece de resistance: a Live Auction with a professional auctioneer. Throughout the evening, we sell raffle tickets for the chance to win cool prizes. Child care – with a movie, treats, and special surprises – is available at no cost downstairs.
Does it cost to get in?
The Auction is for members/friends and guests, and admission is free for all. Admission includes the auctions, buffet, and child care.
Do I need to bring cash on Auction Night?
Bring cash for raffle tickets and donations. If you want to pay your bill on Auction Night (optional), we’ll take personal checks, cash, or credit cards.
I hear bidding is expensive.
More than half of last year’s items sold for $30 or less, and 79 items sold for $10 or less. The minimum (starting) bids will are as low as $2. Yes, the Live Auction bids are more expensive … but it’s OK to partner up to split the cost of a winning bid.
Can I come late?
To get the most out of Auction Night, we encourage you to come at 5:00. You can peruse the Silent Auction tables and the final Auction Catalog at your leisure while enjoying the buffet and catching up with your UU friends. But … if you can’t make it by 5:00, come anyway. The Silent Auction tables, HOT Board, and stage gallery (art and fine jewelry) start closing at about 5:45 – we close them one at a time, each with a 5-minute warning. Child care starts at 6:00. The Live Auction starts at 7:00. The dinner buffet will be open until 6:45, and the dessert buffet will open after the Live Auction, around 8:00.
Can I pre-register?
Pre-registration is now closed. But if you didn’t the chance to pre-register … no problem! Come anyway; we’ll register you when you check in.
I have an unavoidable conflict and can’t come. Can I still bid?
Yes! Get a friend to be your proxy. At check-in, s/he will register you as well and get two bidder numbers. (You can also pre-register with a proxy.) At checkout, we’ll issue a separate receipt for you and then bill you for your winnings.
Do I have to come in costume?
Costumes are optional. We’re not responsible if you show up as Wonder Woman and someone else does, too.
Can I see what’s up for bid before Auction Night?
Yes! The Auction Catalog is now available for download. Click here to download the Auction Catalog. Click here to download the Auction Cover (which contains Auction Night info and a guide to bidding). Download the Auction Catalog Addendum. A sortable, searchable table of Auction items is on our Up for Bid page. Printed copies of the final Auction Catalog and Addendum will be given to bidders at registration on Auction Night.
Are there other ways to get Auction info?
For general info and links to other Auction info, see our Auction home page. And … we have a Facebook page where you get extra details (like photos) on Auction items. (In Facebook, search for All Souls UU Auction.)
