Stained Glass Restoration Update
Fundraising
In Hand: $242,404.97 (in cash, checks, pledges and grants)
Need to Raise: $69,595.03 (by June 2012)
Currently, over 1/3 of our congregation has made an identifiable contribution to the Stained Glass Fund; our goal is to have 80% of the congregation as donors. For a list of donors, see the Stained Glass Donors page.
Current Fundraisers
- Cash Match – All donations made by May Day (May 1) up to $1,000 will be matched by an anonymous donor.
- Chili Cook Off (Apr. 21) – Church members and friends will make their favorite chili, and we’ll vote for the best chili with donations to the Stained Glass Fund. For details, see the Chili Cookoff page.
- Any donation of $50 or more to the Stained Glass Fund will earn the donor a free commemorative T-shirt.
Grantwriting
- Unfortunately, our request for an Anschutz Foundation grant was declined. However, we are applying to other grants with the hope that we will find a foundation whose requirements fit our needs and situation.
We have targeted the summer solstice (June 21) to have a victory picnic/bar-b-que for the entire church to celebrate our success in obtaining all the required funds.
Management
Per state requirement, we have established a separate bank account for the stained glass restoration funds. We are officially under contract with the state and with the architect and historic preservation specialist. We have received our initial grant payment from the state and have paid our first bill.
April is bid-letting month for the stained glass restoration project. We will have interested contractors touring the church on Thursday, April 13. We have a bid process that we are required to follow because of our State Historic Fund Award. To honor this process, we will direct any inquiries concerning the bids or project to our architect of record, Timothy Stroh. His contact information is 719-330-7398 or Tim@stroh.com.
Schedule
The construction process for the restoration will start in mid-May and is expected to continue for nine to ten months. The church will be open during construction, and the process is designed to minimize the impact on church use. Church members and renters will be informed about the impacts of this construction on building use and space availability.
Recognition
Plaques are being designed to recognize the various levels of donors to the stained glass restoration fund. After the restoration, they will be on display at the church. Plans for a dedication ceremony are in discussion. For details about the donor levels, see the Stained Glass Restoration Project page.
