“The Reasons for Reason” – Rev. Dr. Nori Rost

Unitarian Universalism is often distinguished from other faiths by its commitment to the use of rationality in religion. We often hear people say “reason is useful in religion.” But what do we mean by this, why is it important, and how is this consistent with our history? Join us as guest speaker, Rev. Nathan Mesnikoff, explores this important theme. Rev. Nathan is Director of Spiritual Care & Volunteer Services at Memorial Health System, Co-chair of the Medical Ethics Committee, and Affiliated Community Minister, High Plains Church UU.

In this service, Rev. Rost will talk about the many ways we can experience love. As we look to Valentine’s Day, all love will be celebrated, not just our traditional understanding of lovers. We will close this service with a special Chocolate Communion. What’s not to love???

“Mardi Gras Service with The Tribe” – Rev. Dr. Nori Rost

Join us as we have our own Mardi Gras celebration on the Sunday before Fat Tuesday. Local band The Tribe will once again join us to share in some of the traditional music of Mardi Gras. In the words of John Wise, one of the Tribe’s founding members: “what really sets Tribe apart is our focus on the ethnic tradition that has developed during Carnival due to the racial exclusion of blacks in the big parades of Carnival. It is a very rich tradition and shows a creative adaptation of one minority (blacks), celebrating and honoring another minority (the Indians) who gave refuge to escaped slaves.” The service will also include music from our own All Souls folks!
