Search for a Settled Minister 2022-23

Unlike many other faith traditions, where a congregation is assigned a minister by the regional or national leadership, a vote by the membership of a Unitarian Universalist church is required to call a settled minister into covenant with a congregation. The search process developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is designed to match ministers in search for a congregation with congregations in search for a minister.

Meet Our Search Committee

The Search Committee is tasked with participating in the UUA sanctioned search process to find the best candidate to fulfill the role of settled minister for our Congregation. To that end, we aim to earn and keep the trust of our Congregation, to engage the membership in the search process, to represent our Congregation as authentically as possible, and to maintain the privacy of ministers in search.

Members of the Search Committee were nominated by members in the spring of 2022 and the slate of candidates prepared by the Board was approved by our Congregation at the Congregational Meeting in May 2022. You can read more about each of the committee members below.

Announcements & Events

Beyond Categorical Thinking

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Beyond Categorical Thinking workshop. Beyond Categorical Thinking (BCT) is a program designed to help congregations in the ministerial search process. Issues around race/ethnicity, gender/gender identity, visible and invisible disabilities, health concerns, and sexual orientation are addressed in the workshop.

This was a wonderful opportunity for our congregation to be mindful of personal implicit and overt biases, and to take active steps to counter systemic and personal biases during (and beyond) the interim period.

Congregation Survey, Focus Groups, and Cottage Groups

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Congregational Survey and the Focus & Cottage discussion groups! We loved hearing from everyone, and we got a tremendous amount of information about how we view ourselves as a church and what we are looking for in a future minister!

On Sunday, January 8, 2023, Beth Elliot, our Interim Minister Intern, will be offering a sermon that celebrates the 130th Anniversary of our Founder’s Day and explores some of the results from the Congregational Survey and the Focus & Cottage Groups we held with the Congregation this fall. We hope you can attend and hear some highlights of and the larger themes of what the Search Committee learned.  We’ll also include a presentation of the results from our “Focus Group” with the kids and youth in the RE program!
