I grew up in the United Methodist Church, where faith was a central part of my life. My grandfather was a Methodist minister, and my parents served as Sunday school teachers throughout my childhood. I remained involved in the Methodist Church into early adulthood, but over time, my beliefs evolved, and I found that the Methodist church was no longer the right fit for me. During a spring break in college, I was introduced to the Unitarian Universalist Church by my great-uncle Bill, a retired Methodist minister who had joined the UU Church after retirement.
Growing up, my church community was my support system, helping my family navigate challenging times, including the death of my mother when my sister and I were in elementary school. This experience instilled in me a passion for creating a similar sense of community for others. I’ve always been drawn to questions about meaning, spirituality, and our purpose—interests that have shaped both my personal and academic journey.
I earned my B.A. in philosophy with a minor in religious studies from Western Illinois University, followed by an M.A. in philosophy from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. I’ve taught philosophy at various colleges, including Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Iowa Western Community College, College of Saint Mary, and more recently, Pikes Peak State College.
My sister and I both began attending a UU Church in Omaha, Nebraska, during our young adult years. It was there that we met our core friend group and, eventually, our husbands. In Omaha, I became actively involved in church life, participating in the choir and band, co-leading the young adult group, volunteering for Religious Education, serving on the membership team, and contributing to various committees.
In the fall of 2019, my husband Matt and I moved to Colorado Springs with our twin daughters, who were two years old at the time. I began working at All Souls in August 2022, and our family grew with the birth of our son in December 2022. I feel grateful to help build community and create a spiritual home for my children and other families at All Souls.
